Kawasaki Frontale vs Eastern preview
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 9 May 2017
Kick-off: 12:30 CET
From hell to paradise… From being the only team that dropped points against Eastern, to beating Suwon in Korea. Kawasaki are sitting third in the group table, but are holding their fate in their own hands. For some, they have already qualified. They need a simple 1-0 win over Eastern to finish in the top two, given that leaders Guangzhou Evergrande are hosting Suwon Bluewings. Kawasaki’s win is so probable that betting companies pay practically nothing on it, and ‘practically’ in this case is rather redundant. Last weekend they beat Albirex Niigata 3-0, they now have two wins in their last three games. Kawasaki will still qualify even if the unthinkable happens and Eastern earn a draw, as long as Suwon lose at Guangzhou. They will finish with eight points each, but Kawasaki have the advantage over the Korean side, having earned four points in the two matches between them. Kawasaki are playing with their supporters present at this game, despite the fact that they got punished because some of their fans lifted a wartime flag during their last game against Suwon. The one-match ban will be put into effect if Kawasaki fans repeat their… offence.
It has been a… painful experience, but a huge one for sure. Eastern are finishing their group matches having fond memories from their 1-1 draw at home against Kawasaki. The rest of the games, didn’t leave them with… similarly nice memories. Guangzhou thrashed them twice, 7-0 and 6-0, Suwon beat them 5-0 in Korea, and come to think of it, their 1-0 defeat to the Bluewings in Hong Kong wasn’t that bad. After their 6-0 defeat to Guangzhou two weeks ago at home, they lost an FA Cup match to South China, and, much-much-much more importantly, they got humiliated by Kitchee. Their 4-1 loss left them second in the championship, two points behind Kitchee. It was the last day of the season, Eastern needed just a draw to win the championship, but… no. They were 2-0 down by halftime, 3-0 down early in the second half, they made it 3-1, but couldn’t build on that. After the game and the celebrations, the Kitchee owner promised Hong Kong better results in next season’s Champions League, a comment mostly aimed at Eastern, for their horrible results in most group games this season.
Kawasaki Frontale vs Eastern: Head-to-head Stats
Eastern held Kawasaki to an unexpected 1-1 draw in Hong Kong earlier this season, in what was the first game ever between these two.
Kawasaki Frontale vs Eastern: Prediction
Kawasaki should win. Actually, I’d go that far as to write ‘Kawasaki will win’, no matter if we use to say that ‘in football you never know’.
Kawasaki Frontale vs Eastern: Tips
Kawasaki’s win pays nothing. Betting companies expect them to win anything from 3-0 to 5-0, paying between 7.50 and 8.50 on those three scores. Personally, I’m going with 6-0, which pays 10.00 (with 7-0 another strong… contender, at 15.00), counting on Eastern’s… broken wings, after their devastating loss to Kitchee 72 hours before kick-off at Kawasaki.
