Kawasaki Frontale vs Ulsan Hyundai
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 18 April 2018
Kick-off: 12:00 CET
Two points from five matches have left Kawasaki Frontale at the bottom of the group table, even mathematically without a chance of finishing in the top 2. Second-placed Ulsan Hyundai are six whole points above them. Two weeks ago they drew 1-1 at Shanghai SIPG, a result/performance at the home of the group leaders that showed Kawasaki were actually… unfair to themselves doing so poorly in the four previous group matches. They had the players to do much better, and at least be alive in the fight for a top 2 finish on the last day of the group campaign. Two points from three matches in Japan’s championship since that draw at Shanghai SIPG have left Frontale 6th in the J-League table, in what looks like a way below average season for them thus far.
The… wonders of football. Ulsan Hyundai hosted Melbourne Victory two weeks ago, having been a disgrace for weeks. They took the lead in the 12th minute thanks to a goal that you rarely see, and just like that, a… button was pushed, and they started playing like… Manchester City in the Premier League. They won the game 6-2(!!), they qualified for the last 16 of the AFC Champions League, but… that’s wasn’t the end of the story. They have won all three K-League matches since then, while before hosting Melbourne Victory they had no points in four matches(!). “Extreme makeover”… As previously mentioned, they have already qualified. They are three points ahead of third-placed Melbourne Victory, but even if they finish level on points, they have the advantage.

Kawasaki Frontale vs Ulsan Hyundai: Head to head Stats
Frontale have hosted Ulsan once before. It was in 2014, an AFC CL group stage match, which the hosts won 3-1.
Kawasaki Frontale vs Ulsan Hyundai: Prediction
I’m going with Kawasaki’s win, having liked their attitude at Shanghai SIPG two weeks ago, respecting their fighting spirit, and also keeping in mind that Ulsan have already qualified for the round of 16.
Kawasaki Frontale vs Ulsan Hyundai: Betting Tips
Kawasaki Frontale’s win is at 1.83 betting odds. Despite those eight goals in Ulsan’s last game, I choose “under 2.5 goals” as my second tip, at 2.10, because Kawasaki have been poor offensively in the group, and Ulsan have already reached their target, securing a top 2 spot, therefore lacking real motive.
