Kerkyra vs Apollon Smyrnis
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 17 February 2018
Kick-off: 14:00 CET
Kerkyra looked much-much better than what I expected them when they visited Xanthi last weekend, took the lead in the 64th minute, missed two good-good chances to score a second goal, and came 65 seconds away from leaving Xanthi with all three points. The hosts equalised in the third minute of added time, 65 seconds before it was due to expire, breaking… Kerkyra’s hearts. If the Corfu side had protected that lead, today they would be a point above Apollon Smyrnis, right above the relegation line. Now they are a point below their visitors. Either way, this game would be a massive one, but the fact that Kerkyra are below Apollon in the table, makes this an ab-so-lu-te-ly “must win” match for the hosts. The draw in Xanthi was only the second game among the last ten that Kerkyra managed to get something from, after their win over Platanias three weeks ago.
He may have said it because he meant it, he may have said it because he wanted to… challenge his players to step up, but either way, Apollon Smyrnis coach Paraschos surprised many by saying right after their 1-1 draw at home last weekend against Levadiakos that his team are lacking players with personality(!). The exclamation mark has to do not with the… essence of Paraschos’ words, but with the very fact that he pronounced those words. It’s the players he is counting on to save the team from relegation… They took the lead early in the second half last weekend, but all they managed was a 1-1 draw, in a match that could have gone either way. My tips back then were Levadiakos’ double chance (2.00) and draw alone (3.10), and both came good. Apollon are 14th in the table, one point above Kerkyra, and the way things are today, even a draw would be a good result for them.

Kerkyra vs Apollon Smyrnis: Head to head Stats
Kerkyra hosted Apollon in May 2016. That game ended in a 2-0 Kerkyra win. Before that, they hadn’t hosted them since 2004.
Kerkyra vs Apollon Smyrnis: Prediction
Kerkyra are considered favourites to win the game, but I don’t see that. I’m backing Apollon to earn at least a draw.
Kerkyra vs Apollon Smyrnis: Betting Tips
Apollon’s double chance doesn’t pay much, “just” 1.55, but I feel very strongly about it. Draw, at 2.90, is definitely much more probable than an Apollon win. Deep down I expect a goalless draw. “Under 1.5” is at 2.50 betting odds, and I think it has very good chances of coming good.
