Korona Kielce vs Piast Gliwice
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 15 December 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
You need to be in Korona Kielce’s dressing room to figure out how the heck they have done S!O! badly in their last two games. Even then, even being… a fly on a wall, inside Korona’s dressing room, I doubt someone would be able to spot the reason behind this late collapse. Last weekend they lost 3-0 at home(!) to Arka Gdynia(!!). On Wednesday they got ridiculed, 5-1(!!), at Jagiellonia Bialystok(!). Shocking result, shockingly… naive and “loose” attitude defensively. They lost the ball too easily, they got wrong positions, they neglected marking their players, they didn’t even have the heart to jump inside their box. Korona, at Jagiellonia, looked almost like a hypnotized group, as if someone had put something in their water… Inexplicable… From being within striking distance from the top, they have now fallen 7th(!) in the table.
You are a coach, you spend days preparing your team for a big match, to host the biggest team of the country, and just a few minutes into the game, your goalkeeper makes an incredible mistake and leaves the team with ten men. Szmatula took Legia Warsaw’s striker Niezgoda down outside the box, no penalty, but direct red card, throwing to the trashcan all the plans Piast had to deal with the match. If that weren’t enough, a clumsy challenge just inside the box in the 44th minute led to Legia’s goal from the penalty spot, the only goal of the match. Interestingly, despite playing with ten men and against mighty Legia, Piast had three good (to great) chances late in the game to salvage a point. They remain second-to-last in the table, having only Pogon Szczecin below them.

Korona Kielce vs Piast Gliwice: Prediction
Korona have to react, and if they don’t do so at home against one of the weakest sides in the league, then… They are considered rather clear favourites to win, and I have to agree. Their morale is super low, but still, they have so many players who can make a difference, that you expect some of them, just some of them, to… react.
