Krasnodar vs Fenerbahce
Competition: UEFA Europe League
Date: 16th February 2017
Kick-off: 17:00 CET
Krasnodar secured placement in this match as the second placed in Group I, behind the german side Schalke 04. They had two victories in the group phase, against Salzburg on the road and Nice at home and were undefeated at home in the match with Salzburg. Krasnodar lost both matches against the first placed Schalke and these are the only games in which they failed to score. Since the end of the group stage they played only friendly matches. Krasnodar won three of them, two ended with draws and lost only to Slavia Prague. The Russians scored nine goals in those six matches. Left winger Joaozinho is out injured.
Fenerbahce had four wins, one draw and one defeat and secured the first position in Group A, one point in front of Manchester United. Most of the points they achieved at home ground. The turkish giants are in good form at the moment and lost just once in the last 13 matches in all competitions. Their last meeting with Bursaspor on road ended without winner (1:1), while previously won 1:0 in the derby against Besiktas in the cup. Moussa Sow has returned from the Africa Cup of Nations and featured in the last two matches. Robin van Persie is likely to keep his position after the win over Besiktas. Volkan Sen is still injured and will miss out, meaning that Moussa Sow and Jeremain Lens will take the wide positions. Key defender Martin Skrtel is suspended for this match and his absence is a huge handicap.
Krasnodar vs Fenerbahce: Head-to-head Stats
This is the clubs’ first meeting and Krasnodar’s first encounter with Turkish opponents. Fenerbahce’s six games against Russian teams have ended with mixed success (W2 D3 L1). Krasnodar will look to make it to the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 for the first time. They reached Round of 32 last season, but lost on aggregate to Sparta Prague. Fenerbahce were semi-finalists in this competition in 2012/13 season, but were eliminated by another Russian side – Lokomotiv Moskow.
Krasnodar vs Fenerbahce: Prediction
Fenerbahce are favorites according to me. They are in good shape at the moment. They have another advantage as Coach Dick Advocat knows the Russian league very well. Just to mention, Advocaat has won the Europa League in 2007/08 season with Zenit. Krasnodar are currently off season and that could be a problem. The weather conditions should not be a big problem as Krasnodar have fairly mild temperatures by Russian standards. I believe Fenerbahce are able to win.
Krasnodar vs Fenerbahce: Tips
Both teams to score looks like a decent bet for me. Krasnodar plays at home and they will try to win. Since the guests are without key defender Martin Skrtel due to suspension, the Russians could at least score. Fenerbahce, meanwhile, have experienced players. Robin Van Persie and Moussa Sow are surely able to upset the hosts. Statistically, Fenerbahce have scored in 17 of their 19 away games in all competitions this season, while Krasnodar in 15 of their 16 home games.
