Lamia vs Panathinaikos
Competition: Greece Cup
Date: 10 January 2019
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Something over a year ago, Lamia shocked Panathinaikos, beating them 4-1 in a Cup match, at home. Three weeks later, they lost only 1-0 in Athens, and qualified for the next round. Today’s team is very different to that one, many players have come and gone, but I’m pretty sure that the new players have been… informed about that hard to believe 4-1, and will be at the back of their mind, as an “it can be done, we can knock these guys out” mental push. Lamia are just 14th in the Super League table, on 11 points from 14 matches. They know they have to do much better, or else, the end of the season will find them returning to the Football League (second division). A couple of days ago they signed 33-year-old Spanish attacking midfielder Joan Tomás.
Sunday was a weird day for Panathinaikos, as not just one or two, but nine(!) players missed training, down with a flu. Incredibly, on Monday, even Giorgos Donis, the coach, was out, for the same reason. On Tuesday, things looked better; Donis remained at home, but four out of the nine guys returned to practice. Under these circumstances, Panathinaikos will play against Lamia simply with the only players they have available, the only players who managed to train properly these last days. Thankfully for them, they have the return leg at home. Panathinaikos are fifth in the Super League table, on 22 points, but be reminded, they started the season carrying a -6 penalty from last year.

Lamia vs Panathinaikos: Head to head Stats
Lamia destroyed Panathinaikos 4-1 in a Cup match in December 2017. Two months earlier, they hosted them first time ever, and drew 1-1.
Lamia vs Panathinaikos: Prediction
I’m backing Lamia to win the game, mostly because of the… weird conditions under which Panathinaikos spent these last days, with many players missing training due to a… flu wave.
Lamia vs Panathinaikos: Betting Tips
Lamia’s win is at 2.55. My main tip though, is their double chance combined with “under 2.5 goals”, at 2.17.
