Lamia vs Panathinaikos
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 24 August 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Lamia got promoted to Greece’s top division two years ago, finished 13th in 2018, and last season they climbed up 7th(!). Can they keep growing that rapidly, could they finish in the top six and play in the “championship round” instead of the “relegation round” after the end of regular season? Looking at who left the club over the summer, and who arrived, I’m under the impression that Lamia will find it very-very difficult to finish higher than last season. I think that realistically, avoiding relegation without sweating until the very last day, has to be their target. Sotiris Antoniou took over earlier this month (Lamia started pre-season with another coach).
Half the news at Panathinaikos last season had to do with court decisions, with efforts to reach deals with former players of theirs to whom they owed money. On the pitch, they earned 47 points; once the season was over though, in the table, next to “Panathinaikos”, you could see only 36 points, as 11 had been deducted (not all at once). The club are not out of the woods yet, but things today, definitely look better than 12 months ago. Super important detail: coach Yorgos Donis remains in charge, despite interest from Huddersfield. He told reporters that the timing is just not right, he wouldn’t leave Panathinaikos just a few days before their championship debut. Keep in mind, Donis is not “just another coach” at Panathinaikos, he is a former player of theirs, having linked his name with golden days of the past.

Lamia vs Panathinaikos: Head to head Stats
Lamia had never hosted Panathinaikos before October 2017, but these last two years they have created an awesome record against them, beating them three times, and drawing once (the last two seasons, they faced each other both in the championship and the Cup).
Lamia vs Panathinaikos: Prediction
Panathinaikos left very good impressions in their friendly games the last four weeks, but I still don’t trust them to beat Lamia away from home. They are considered relatively clear favorites, but I would avoid betting on them.
Lamia vs Panathinaikos: Betting Tips
“Under 1.5” is at 2.55. If you find this, Panathinaikos’ double chance combined with “under 2.5 goals” pays 1.87.
