Lamia vs Xanthi
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 7 January 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
Taking a look at the “previous five matches” you see that Lamia earned an incredible 4-1 win over Panathinaikos in their last 2017 game. The score is obviously impressive, it was a Cup match, Lamia will have the chance to defend their advantage when they visit Panathinaikos in a few days, but someone should keep in mind that the game took place under… “special” circumstances, the weather played a big role, the match was almost postponed because of snow fall. My point is, without meaning to take anything out of Lamia’s huge win, it’s not exactly representative of how they were doing before the break. Four days earlier they had lost 2-0 at home to AEL Larissa, having five Super League draws in a row before that defeat. Either way, Lamia are sitting 12th in the table, five points higher than Kerkyra, the first team right below the relegation line. They have met their “first half of the season” target, and they look perfectly capable of continuing like that, finishing 14th or higher in May.
Xanthi kind of finished 2017 the way they started it. They had one draw and three defeats in December, including their 3-0 loss at AEL Larissa in the Cup, a result that has practically ended their chances of doing something remarkable in the competition this season. They have the return leg at home in a few days, but… To find a similarly bad streak of results, someone needs to go back to January and February 2017, when Xanthi had two draws and four defeats in six consecutive games, no wins, including Cup matches. They are sitting 9th in the Super League table, and if something doesn’t change spectacularly the next 3-4 weeks, the season will be practically over for them before the end of February.

Lamia vs Xanthi: Head to head Stats
Lamia have never hosted Xanthi before.
Lamia vs Xanthi: Prediction
Lamia are considered favourites to win, but I have my doubts, having seen them struggle even against teams lower than them in the table. Xanthi have a decent record away from home in the Super League, and their win in “draw no bet” pays more than 2.00, which I prefer to Lamia’s win at 2.40 (without the safety net of “draw no bet”).
Lamia vs Xanthi: Betting Tips
Xanthi’s double chance is at 1.57, a conservative approach which I consider very probable to come good, keeping in mind that Lamia have won just one of their last five Super League games at home. Xanthi’s win in “draw no bet” pays 2.10. Keep in mind, they have already picked up three victories as guests this season, while they have celebrated just one win as hosts. Somehow, playing away from home seems to suit them better this season.
