Lanus vs Gimnasia La Plata
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 9 February 2019
Kick-off: 01:10 CET
Lanús beat Colón 1-0 at home last weekend, being very-very lucky not to concede. Their goal came in the 88th minute, big moment for Pepe Sand who scored on his… new debut at home (he is a Lanús icon who just returned to the club after a year in Colombia). That was Lanús’ first real chance in the entire second half, period during which Colón missed three glorious opportunities to take the lead. All in all, I was left with the impression that Luis Zubeldía’s team earned two more points than what they really deserved, but then again, in the first half of the season, there were games they deserved better, but lost. That’s how football goes sometimes… Twenty-one points have them 14th in the table, in with a chance of earning a Copa Sudamericana ticket.
Gimnasia had to beat Tigre last week at home “no matter what”, they were and remain close to the relegation line, and they definitely rose to the occasion, winning the game 3-1. They took the lead early in the second half, got equalized in the 72nd minute, but Maxi Coronel and Alexi Gómez both scored in the last five minutes of the match to not only give Gimnasia the victory, but also make it feel like a triumph, especially with Gómez’s goal being a… “golazo”. Gimnasia are 20th in the “promedio” table, with those placed 23rd and lower getting relegated at the end of the season.

Lanus vs Gimnasia La Plata: Head to head Stats
Impressive… These two have played seven matches in Lanús the last 10 years; the hosts have won five of those, and the other two have ended in a draw. The most impressive detail is that Gimnasia failed to score in all seven matches(!).
Lanus vs Gimnasia La Plata: Prediction
Lanús have won four of their last six matches, drawing in the other two. They are going through their best period since the start of the season. Plus, they are playing at home. Combining all that, I feel they deserve my trust in this match.
