LASK vs Basel
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 13 August 2019
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Valérien Ismaël, LASK’s coach, told reporters after his team’s 1-2 win in Switzerland last week, in the first leg, that he found Basel “weak”, not as strong as he expected them. Attempts were 8-15 for LASK(!), so… you see his point. The Austrian side found Basel on a really poor night, and took perfect advantage of that. They actually took a 0-2 lead in the 82nd minute, only to concede in the 87th, a goal that didn’t change much, as Basel still need at least two goals to qualify. On Saturday, LASK won again, 0-1, at Admira, their third win in as many games in Austria’s championship. They have won all their five official games thus far this season, counting last week’s victory in Switzerland and another win in Austria’s Cup.
Marcel Koller couldn’t really explain what happened last week… In the second qualifying round, against PSV, Basel had looked very productive, scoring twice in the Netherlands, in the first leg, and twice more at home, in the return one, to eliminate the Dutch. Last week, they struggled to create real chances, and their only goal came super late, while already 0-2 down. On Saturday they beat Servette 3-1 at home. After that game, Koller told reporters he still believes in his team, he thinks they can score twice in Austria, something they’ll have to do though without Albian Ajeti. The 22-year-old striker got transferred to West Ham last week, for 8.7m euros. Basel paid 1.4m for him two years ago, when they signed him from St. Gallen, they got a really good deal, but he will definitely be missed.

LASK vs Basel: Head to head Stats
Last week’s game was the first ever between these two.
LASK vs Basel: Prediction
LASK are considered favorites to win, but I prefer focusing on goals.
LASK vs Basel: Betting Tips
“Over 2.5 goals”, at 1.75, is a bet I like in this game. Combined with “both teams to score” it pays 2.05. Last but not least, Basel’s double chance combined with “over 2.5 goals” is at 3.05. I’m not writing them off, not just yet, despite what happened last week.
