Leicester Tigers vs Newcastle Falcons
Competition: English Premiership
Date: 15 April 2017
Kick-off: 16:00 CET
Leicester had a massive slip up this weekend by losing to Bath. It left them level on points on the English Premiership log with three rounds left to play. Leicester still sit in fourth place on the log but they are now under massive pressure to make the semi final playoffs of the competition.
Not only are they fighting off Bath but Harlequins and Northampton are five points behind them as well and some good results could see any of those three teams knock Leicester out contention for the playoffs.
It was always going to be tough trying to beat Bath away from home and they didn’t exactly capitulate but they really needed that win to give them some breathing space on the log.
Nevertheless they have to dig themselves out of that hole and they have a good chance to do that this weekend. They’ve been fairly good at home, winning six of their nine matches but they will have to be sharp to beat Newcastle.
The visitors are out of the running for a playoff space this season. They’ve won just eight of their 19 matches so far. The only consolation for them would be a seventh place finish on the log – which gets them a playoff spot to get into the Champions Cup next season.
They are coming off a narrow, two point win over Gloucester which saw them trade places on the Premiership table.
However a trip to Welford Road will be pretty tough going and it’s hard to see Newcastle causing an upset here. They would need to be sharp upfront and water-tight on defence, which they haven’t been this season.
