Leicester vs Derby
Competition: FA Cup
Date: 08 February 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Leicester’s race as Premier League champions is definitely at a close, but their status as Premier Leaguers could also well be coming to an end so it is imperative that the Foxes garner some pride out of a competitions like the FA Cup as they have another chance against Championship side Derby.
Some of Leicester’s own players are starting to admit that they are definitely in line to face the drop after they lost another game to Manchester United in the League. They do still have their fingers in different pies, such as the Champions League where they topped their group to head to the play-off stages, and another lifeline in the FA Cup, but all that can come crumbling down in an instant. Having been in a long lull, the Foxes’ form caught up with them in the FA Cup when they faced Derby and were only able to force a 2-2 draw. They are at home however for this replay, and that will give them a lot of confidence because it must be said they have not won much at home, but not lost much there either.
For Derby, they are a team that is doing fairly well in the Championship and the FA Cup is exactly the type of tournament for them. They can do all they can to impress and the reward is well worth it, especially if they can beat a few Premier League teams, and defending champions too, while they are at it. The draw to Leicester would have also stung them because there was a time in that game that they would have sniffed victory themselves, but they, like Leicester, will take their second shot with a lot of fire in their bellies.
Leicester vs Derby: Domestic form
Leicester have only managed to fall closer and closer to the relegation zone and now sit two places above the bottom three, but that only equates to one point as Swansea are are equal points, 21, as them sitting underneath them.
Derby have dropped a place since they last played Leicester in the first FA Cup encounter, but they are still in eighth in a tight league, and will feel they have done well in the circumstances all year long.
Leicester vs Derby: Prediction
Leicester are really going through a rough season, but they have the possibility to impress, obviously last season shows that, but also the odd game like their 3-1 win over Manchester City. They are in the last 16 of the Champion’s League and have it in them. Being at home, they probably should sneak this one by a goal.
Leicester vs Derby: Tips
It will be a cagey game with not much flair or creativity, as the teams protect their goal in the hopes of a counter attack score. Look for the result to be 1-0 to either team, but more than likely the home side.
