Leinster vs Edinburgh
Competition: Guinness Pro12
Date: 17 February 2017
Kick-off: 20:35 CET
With the revival of Scottish rugby happening in the Six Nations, Edinburgh will want to bring some of that pride home as their season has been a little mediocre this year. They won’t have it easy going however as they face one of the more settled sides in the competition, Leinster.
Leinster are currently in third, but equal in terms of wins and losses compared with Ospreys who are above them. Their immediate goal will be to try and overtake the Welsh side who are three points clear of them thanks to more bonus points. Leinster themselves are not scared of bonus points themselves as they have managed four-try bonuses in seven of their 14 games, but they have not picked up any losing bonus points in their three losses. Welcoming Edinburgh to Ireland, they will see a chance for another full set of points as the Scottish side are a little susceptible to strong attacks.
Edinburgh will not be happy with their placing way down near the bottom of the table as they sit in ninth spot, having only picked up four wins and 10 losses. They are also under threat from Newport Dragons below them who again are only a single bonus point behind. Edinburgh have just been mediocre at best, and even more worrying is the fact that a lot of their stars are now missing to the Six Nations, and while that is true of Leinster and everyone else in the competition, there was a rather large dependence on them for the Scottish side. Edinburgh will also know that traveling to Ireland will never be an easy thing.
Leinster vs Edinburgh: Head-to-Head Stats
This is a fixture that has a bit of history behind it in the Pro12, but over the 27 encounters, Leinster have won the most with a comfortable 63% ratio, which sees them winning 17 games compared with Edinburgh who have just the 10 wins in total.
Leinster vs Edinburgh: Prediction
The fact that Edinburgh have to travel, and that their key players are off doing international duty, means that there really is not much hope for the Scottish side to pull off an upset here. Leinster are missing players too, but they still have an experienced and good looking core of those who have remained. Expect the attacking Leister to finish this one off with a bonus point.
Leinster vs Edinburgh: Tips
Leinster have been good at scoring four-try bonuses, so this again will be their chance for maximum points as they rack up at least 33 points.
