Lekhwiya vs Al Fateh
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 9 May 2017
Kick-off: 17:30 CET
Lekhwiya vs Al Fateh: Preview
Lekhwiya have already qualified, actually they have already secured top spot in the group (even if they end up finishing with the same points as Esteghlal Khuzestan), three weeks ago they celebrated winning the championship title in Qatar, last week they beat Al Khor 3-1 to qualify for the semifinals of the Emir Cup, so generally, things look great for them. This is the end of the season for Lekhwiya, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if some of their players looked tired, but still, their record looks impressive, they have lost just one of their last 12 matches, they’ve scored at least two goals in eleven of those same last 12 games, so numbers show that fatigue is not really an issue for them.
Al Fateh are practically out of the competition, and they have no one to blame for that but themselves. First, they drew 0-0 at Al Jazira, which is the only point the UAE team have picked in the group stage so far. Then, they drew again, to Esteghlal Khuzestan, so, really, no one to blame but themselves. To qualify, first they need to beat Lekhwiya, and at the same time they need Al Jazira to beat Esteghlal Khuzestan in Iran, so, in other words, Al Fateh need a double miracle to finish in the top two. A few days ago, on the last day of the season in Saudi Arabia, they beat Al Ittihad 4-1 at home, but even so, they finished eighth, way below third-placed Al Nassr, who got the last ticket for next season’s Champions League.
Lekhwiya vs Al Fateh: Head-to-head Stats
Lekhwiya and Al Fateh drew 2-2 earlier this season, and that was the first time ever they faced each other.
Lekhwiya vs Al Fateh: Prediction
Not only Lekhwiya are a much better team, but they also have their morale boosted by their successes this season, unlike Al Fateh who -looks like they- failed both in the Champions League and their domestic championship. Lekhwiya should win.
Lekhwiya vs Al Fateh: Tips
Lekhwiya’s victory pays a good 2.00. Their win in a game that will have more than two goals pays considerably better, 2.65. Actually, given Lekhwiya’s awesome scoring record, but also the fact that they tend to concede in almost every game (definitely in their last eight), makes me fancy the chances of a win of theirs in an over 3.5 goals game, which pays 4.25. It’s definitely a risk, but maybe one worth taking, given the distance between 2.65 and 4.25.
