Levadiakos vs Asteras Tripolis
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 14 April 2018
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
This is the game that can secure Levadiakos another season in the Super League even mathematically. They are 10th in the table, 10 whole points ahead of Kerkyra, the first team below the relegation line, insane things need to happen for the Livadia side to get relegated, but… you never know, so… this is it for Levadiakos, one of the… “match-balls” they have at their disposal to make sure they will be competing in the Super League next season as well. They are not trouble-free, though. Center-back (and captain) Theodoros Tripotseris is out due to cards, same with Nigerian defensive midfielder Nwankwo Obiora. Another center-back, Brazilian Leonardo, is injured, and is not expected to play again this season. You can tell his team’s defense is definitely a worry for French coach José Anigo. Levadiakos drew 1-1 at home to Olympiakos two weeks ago, in their last game.
Asteras Tripolis have their own problems. Argentine central midfielder Juan Munafo is out due to cards, same with right-winger Nikos Kaltsas. Both are key players at Asteras, and substituting them is a challenge for coach Savvas Pandelidis. Two weeks ago, they destroyed Platanias 4-0 at home, three precious points, that combined with Xanthi’s draw that weekend, pushed Asteras 5th. Only the first four teams in the Super League are guaranteed European football next season, but most probably even the fifth one will be good, depending on how things go in the Greek Cup. Several players are out of contract by the end of the season, and it’s a common secret in Tripoli that a good number of players will only stay if they manage to get the club a UEFA Europa League ticket.
