Levadiakos vs PAOK Salonika
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 17 December 2018
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Levadiakos came super close to earning a shocking victory at Panionios last weekend. They took the lead late in the first half, stayed 0-1 up until added time, but they got equalized seconds before the final whistle. Midweek, some players complained about fatigue, and Akis Mantzios’ reaction was to modify the training schedule. The recently-hired coach heard several players of his complain about the same thing, so he knew it was an isolated case of one or two guys. Two players left the club this past week, and more will follow, as Levadiakos are… “tidying up” their roster, keeping the players they really want, letting go those who didn’t deliver what was expected from them. Eight points from 13 matches have the Livadia side second-to-last in the table, below the relegation line.
Giorgos Savvidis, one of the sons of Ivan Savvidis, the main shareholder of PAOK, posted something on his Twitter account soon after the end of Thursday’s Europa League match, a shameful 1-3 defeat at home to BATE; “I wish I could wake up with amnesia tomorrow, and forget this shame”, something like that is what he wrote. That’s how every proud PAOK fans feels these days… The team may be first in the Super League, having won 12 of their 13 matches and drawn in the other one, but their presence in the Europa League these last months, excluding their 1-4 win in Belarus, was pathetic, pa-the-tic… Coach Razvan Lucescu said in the Press conference after Thursday’s match that everything was his fault, he hadn’t prepared the team properly for that “final”. He had said the same thing after PAOK’s defeat at home to MOL Vidi. He had said the same thing after PAOK’s defeat in Hungary as well. It feels like he has taped himself saying something, and every now and then pushes the “play” button… It goes without writing, PAOK, are desperate to win this game, obviously for the points involved, but mostly to bounce back psychologically. Captain Adelino Vieirinha and Greek attacking midfielder Dimitris Pelkas are out, injured.
