Libertad vs Sportivo Luqueno
Competition: Paraguay Clausura
Date: 20 July 2018
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
Óscar Giménez, Mathías Espinoza, Édgar Benítez, Juan Manuel Salgueiro and Egidio Arévalo Ríos. These are the five players who joined Libertad these last weeks. On the other hand, several left; Rodrigo Alborno, David Mendieta, Jonathan Valiente, Danilo Santacruz and Iván Ramírez have already moved on, while there are two guys who no longer form part of Libertad coach’s plans, but haven’t been able to find another club, and are currently training with the reserves. They are veteran striker Santiago Salcedo and Adalberto Román. Libertad finished third in the Apertura, but obviously their highlight in the first half of the year was qualifying for the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores, where they will be facing Boca Juniors.
Sportivo Luqueño signed an almost… entire new team, ten players, Fabio Escobar, Marcos Miers, Paulo Lima, Jonathan Santana, Aldo Quiñonez, Mathías Villasanti, Éver Caballero, Wálter Ortiz, Wilson Pittoni and Uallace de Souza. Escobar is expected to score goals for them, but… ten new players, in the middle of the season, it feels… extreme. Then again, desperate times call for desperate measures. Their Apertura was just pathetic, finishing on 21 points from 22 matches, second-to-last (hand in hand with Deportivo Capiatá). Sergio Vergara, Julio dos Santos, Junior Brítez, Nicolás Orsini, Sebastián Ariosa and Pedro Martínez, all six left the club.

Libertad vs Sportivo Luqueno: Head to head Stats
Sportivo Luqueño have back-to-back wins at Libertad, both by 2-1. Actually, they have won four of their last six matches visiting Nicolás Leoz.
Libertad vs Sportivo Luqueno: Prediction
I’m really… interested/curious to see this new Sportivo Luqueño, the team that signed no less than 10(!) new players. Looking at the roster of both teams, there is no doubt Libertad are superior, but… be reminded, Luqueño actually beat Libertad at Nicolás Leoz in the Apertura. All things considered though, I expect the hosts to start the Clausura on the right foot.
Libertad vs Sportivo Luqueno: Betting Tips
At 1.57, a simple Libertad win doesn’t appeal to me. I prefer “over 2.5 goals”, at 1.72. These two combined, offer a much better 2.37, which makes the risk of betting on Libertad’s win worth it.
