Liverpool vs Spartak Moscow
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 6 December 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Liverpool’s win in “draw no bet” two weeks ago, when they visited Sevilla, was at 1.90, decent, I liked it enough to suggest it (along with the Reds’ double chance, paying just under 1.60), and the game couldn’t have gone better in the first half, with Klopps’ men 3-0 up. Final score, 3-3… Where did this leave Liverpool in the group? Obliged to get at least a point against Spartak Moscow. If Liverpool lose and Sevilla beat Maribor, they are left third, level on points with Spartak, but second best in their games against them. If Liverpool lose and Sevilla simply draw at Maribor, there will be a triple tie, and again, Liverpool will be left third. That goal they conceded in added time, at Sevilla, two weeks ago, was that important. Last weekend they beat Brighton 5-1 away from home, playing with a… weird lineup, as Klavan and Matip were left out, unable to play for different reasons, leaving Klopp with little choice back to play with Can and Wijnaldum in defence(!). It worked. Great, actually. They are 4th in the Premier League, 14 whole points behind leaders Manchester City.
If only… If only Spartak Moscow had won not both, but at least one of their two games against Maribor… Two weeks ago they got stuck to an unbelievable 1-1 draw at home against the lowly Slovenian side, getting left with a mountain to climb at Anfield. Being two points behind Sevilla and three behind Liverpool, means that to be in the last 16 of the competition, there is no other way, they need to beat the Reds, nothing but a win can see them though to the knock-out stages. As long as they win, they don’t care what happens in the other match of the group. They have drawn 1-1 to Liverpool in Moscow, and a win in England will get them level on points with Liverpool, but having the advantage over them. Same thing if they win and Sevilla draw, in which case there will be a triple tie, with Spartak finishing first, Sevilla second, and Liverpool third. Last weekend they beat Arsenal Tula 1-0 away from home, they now have four wins in a row in Russia’s championship, but are still 4th, eight whole points behind leaders Lokomotiv Moscow.

Liverpool vs Spartak Moscow: Head to head Stats
Liverpool have hosted Spartak twice before. In 1992 (Cup Winners’ Cup) they lost 2-0, and in 2002 (Champions League group stage) they won 5-0.
Liverpool vs Spartak Moscow: Prediction
I’m not touching Liverpool’s win at 1.22, not only because it’s that low, but also, in full honestly, because I’m not that confident they will win. I’m focusing on goals instead.
Liverpool vs Spartak Moscow: Betting Tips
“Over 3.5 goals” may look a bit extreme, but at 2.05 betting odds, I feel it’s worth the risk. Both teams love to attack, and Spartak must score, must win, making them even more vulnerable defensively.
