Liverpool vs Swansea
Competition: Premier League
Date: 21 January 2016
Kick-off: 13:30 CET
After negotiating a tricky FA Cup replay that should not have caused so many problems, Liverpool can refocus on a match against relegation threatened Swansea and hopefully get back to winning ways after dropping points recently.
Liverpool are now down to third in the log with Tottenham overtaking them thanks to two draws in their last two fixtures. First it was Sunderland in a disappointing 2-2 draw against a team near the bottom, then they lost their lead against Manchester United late on to finish at Old Trafford 1-1. Still clearly in the race, despite Chelsea being seven points clear, they are tied on 45 points with Spurs who are above them with a superior goal difference. It is a key game for Liverpool because there will be a real uproar should they lose at home to a struggling Swansea.
Swansea have almost become a permanent fixture in the relegation zone, and even with their new manager, they are not making too much of a move having won just one game under him – against Crystal Palace 2-1. It has been a host of draws that has left Swansea on 15 points from 21 games, but they are equal on points with Sunderland above them, and Hull are just a point further ahead. The problem for the Welsh side is that they have conceded 12 goals in five games.
Liverpool vs Swansea: Head-to-Head Stats
Liverpool unsurprisingly have the historical advantage in this game, but the Swans have at least beaten them twice, and been part of three draws in their 11 matches. The other six results have gone the way of Liverpool with their first encounter in Wales ending 2-1 to the visitors.
Liverpool vs Swansea: Prediction
Liverpool may be coming off two draws, and having had to struggle through their two-legged FA Cup game with a team four tiers lower down than them, but they are still a class outfit and this is the kind of game that will allow them to express themselves against a weak defence and get a big win.
Liverpool vs Swansea: Tips
There is every chance for this to be a high scorer. Swansea are leaking goals big tie, and Liverpool have prided themselves on their ability to score goals. And with Philippe Coutinho back, he will likely be on the scoresheet in a game with probably three goals for the home team.
