Lulea Hockey vs Malmo Redhawks
Date: 10th November 2016
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
Malmo and Lulea meet as the SHL resumes from the international break both looking to snap a streak of poor form. Neither side won any of their last three games before the one week pause.
Lulea had had a good start to the season, but like tonight’s opponents fell off the boil somewhat in their last few games before the break. A run of three straight regulation losses and 0 points from 9 available pushed them don to outside the SHL’s Top Six places, with a 5-2-1-6 record giving them 20 points from 14 rounds. Team Top Scorer Anton Hedman has only five goals so far this season, perhaps underlining where the problems have come.
Long-time leaders of the SHL over the early part of the season, Malmo really hit a rough patch through October. Heading into this match with three straight losses, the Redhawks have also only won two out of their last five seven starts. More worrying is also that those five losses have all been in regulation, so no bonus point for taking to OT or a shootout. Despite their bad form, they still have real danger in offense – Ilari Filppula (6+7) and Andreas Thuresson (5+8) both have 13 points from 14 games so far.
What both teams do possess however is solid goaltending – Oscat Alsenfelt of Malmo has recorded a save percentage of almost 94% in his eight starts so far, while Lulea’s Joel Lassinantti is on 92,47%.
On home ice, Lulea are a Top 4 side in the SHL, with from wins from eight games, and a point in one of their four losses – however, they have lost their last two at home on the spin. They’ve averaged 2,75 goals a game at home so far, giving up a solid 2 in the same time, which isn’t too far from their overall league average either.
Malmo on the road are beaten on overall record only by leaders Karlskrona. The Redhawks have five wins and three regulation losses from eight away trips so far, averaging 3,75 goals a game which is impressive. However of late they’ve also started conceding more, and now average 3,38 against on the road.
