Lyon vs CSKA Moscow
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 15 March 2018
Kick-off: 21:05 CET
Hat off to Lyon for earning a massive victory in Moscow last week. Did they deserve it? Well, they won, they scored, they kept a clean sheet, so the fact that CSKA Moscow were bosses on the pitch in the first half and most of the second, sort of… doesn’t matter. Lyon did suffer in the first half, they were a bit lucky not to concede, but they definitely showed character in the second half, scored a goal from a corner kick, and if they had looked a bit less individualistic when counterattacking, they could have scored a second goal. Last weekend they beat Caen 1-0 at home, staying five points behind third-placed Marseille. That’s their target, secure a Champions League ticket. It’s interesting that they haven’t conceded more than one goal in none of their last six games. To get eliminated, They have to concede more than once (unless they lose 1-0 and the tie goes to penalties).
CSKA Moscow must still be trying to figure out how they lost last week, a game in which they were dominant most of the time. Especially the first half was all CSKA, creating four-five good chances, while Lyon had none. Not even the freezing weather conditions, to which CSKA players are much more used to, compared to Lyon’s players, helped the Russian side. Big disappointment for them, and for their fans who packed the stands. Last weekend they beat Akhmat Grozny 3-0 away from home, showing the… killer instinct they lacked against Lyon. They are the only top 6 team in Russia’s Premier League with back-to-back wins, which has helped them climb third in the table, occupying a Champions League (qualifiers) spot, but still eight points behind leaders Lokomotiv Moscow.

Lyon vs CSKA Moscow: Head to head Stats
Last week’s game was the first ever between these two.
Lyon vs CSKA Moscow: Prediction
Lyon are considered big favourites to win the game, not just to qualify, but after beating CSKA 1-0 in Moscow, the fact that they don’t necessarily need to win in order to qualify, makes me hesitant to bet on their victory.
Lyon vs CSKA Moscow: Betting Tips
I do expect Lyon to score, and I’m counting on CSKA to look more… lethal than last week, and find the back of the net themselves as well. “Both teams to score” is at 2.00 betting odds, and I like it a lot. “Over 2.5 goals” pays just marginally better, and I don’t think it’s worth the risk.
