Lyon vs Sevilla
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 07 December 2016
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
There is still a lot to play for in Group H, unless that is you are Dinamo Zagreb. The other three teams all have something to gain, and to lose, in their final games with Sevilla in a place top top the group – or not qualify, and Lyon to qualify, or not.
For Lyon, they have to win firstly to give themselves a shot of qualifying, they are up against Sevilla, and they are trying to knock the Spanish side out of qualification. Sitting on seven points, if Lyon beat Sevilla they will finish on 10, the same amount as Sevilla, and then it will go down to goals difference. It also means that Lyon need to win by a 3-0 margin to overtake the Spanish side, a feat that will be tough, in fact, just getting the win will be tough enough.
Sevilla are in the pound seats for the moment, they can still fail to qualify, but it is an outside chance. They will be firstly focusing on beating Lyon in this final game to push aside all fears of not qualifying, and once they have those three points they will hope for Juventus to slip up. Sevilla are in second with 10 points, and Juventus are only a point ahead of them, so it means that if Juventus do not beat Zagreb, and Sevilla win, they will top the group. However, this seems unlikely as Zagreb have lost all five of their games in the group stages.
Lyon vs Sevilla: Previous encounter
When these two clashed in Spain, it was a tight win for the home team as Sevilla walked away as 1-0 victors. Ben Yedder was the man to score for Sevilla, in the 53rd minute.
Lyon vs Sevilla: Prediction
There is a lot riding on the outcomes of both of these last two games in Group H, but in this game, it could well be a win for the home team which will make things interesting. Sevilla and Lyon will be on the same points should Lyon win, but it looks unlikely that they will catch up the required goal difference. Expect Lyon to sneak a win that won’t see them qualify.
Lyon vs Sevilla: Tips
Lyon will be hunting goals, but they won’t get enough as Sevilla will also probably grab one or two back. Expect it to be a high scoring one, but with a tight margin.
