Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Slavia Prague
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 23 November 2017
Kick-off: 21:05 CET
Maccabi Tel Aviv’s people must be hearing or seeing Astana’s name and… have nightmares. After two matches in the group, those two had one point each, and were scheduled to play back-to-back matches against each other, first in Kazakhstan and then in Israel. Two games later, Astana are sitting second in the group table on seven points, while Maccabi are… stuck at one. Back-to-back disappointments, first, a 4-0 humiliation in Astana, and then, a home loss, 1-0, which left Maccabi without even mathematical chances of finishing in the top-2, that early. At least they have two wins in a row in Israel’s championship, having “caught” Beitar Jerusalem at 20 points, and closed the gap on co-leaders Hapoel Haifa and Hapoel Be’er Sheva to just three points.
Slavia Prague come from their worst game in the group stage, losing 2-0 at home to Villarreal, a result that pushed them third in the table, three points behind the Spanish side and two behind Astana. Having watched the game between Slavia and Astana in Kazakhstan, it feels weird seeing the Czechs trailing their opponents by two points, given that they were by far the better team in their 1-1 draw in Astana, a result that flattered, a lot, the hosts in that match. All is not lost for Slavia, obviously. Their last away game is against the weakest side of the group (based on the results), and then they are hosting Astana, which will be their golden chance to overtake them, if that hasn’t happened already. Last weekend they beat Dukla Prague 5-0 at home, warming up for this game against Maccabi. They are third in their championship, one point behind second-placed Sigma Olomouc, but 14(!) behind unbelievable Viktoria Plzen, who are still to drop points after 14 game weeks!

Their game earlier this season, was the first ever between these two.
Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Slavia Prague: Prediction
Maccabi are not really the… pitiful team we saw against Astana, they are capable of playing good football, but… having already lost all chances of qualifying, I doubt they have the proper psychology to beat a very motivated Slavia.
Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Slavia Prague: Betting Tips
Slavia’s win pays 2.20. I consider it a big risk, Maccabi can get… resurrected and hurt Slavia’s chances of qualifying, but all things considered, I am backing the Czechs to win, counting on their motive, and the great football they have played in most of their games so far in this group. Maccabi haven’t scored a single goal in the group so far, but personally I would avoid “Slavia to win and keep a clean sheet”, considering that 2.20 good enough.
