Mainz vs Borussia Monchengladbach
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 24 August 2019
Kick-off: 15:30 CET
If you stick to the scores, 2-0 defeat at Kaiserslautern in the Cup two weeks ago, 3-0 defeat at Freiburg last weekend, on their Bundesliga debut, it’s easy to draw the conclusion that Mainz are… pitiful. A closer look though, at least on last weekend’s game, tells a different story; Sandro Schwarz’s team conceded all three goals after the 80th minute, and if you watched the game, you already know that they were the better team on the pitch, not throughout the previous 80 minutes, but definitely during good parts of the game. It should be mentioned that they have important men dealing with injury problems; Bell, Ji, Mateta and St. Juste remain sidelined, while Mwene and Meier were considered doubtful the day before this game. Müller, Brosinski, Hack, Niakhate, Martin, Baku, Fernandes, Latza, Boetius, Onisiwo and Quaison, these will – most probably – be the first 11.
Gladbach’s debut in the Bundesliga with Marco Rose as their new coach, was a big… “hmmm”. Defensively they looked very solid against Schalke at home last weekend, they allowed their opponents very few real scoring chances, but offensively, they left a lot to be desired, and Rose was the first one to admit so, talking to reporters after that game. Unfortunately for them, Stindl, a man who could provide solutions offensively, remains unavailable. Hofmann and Villalba are also out, while Kramer, Jantschke and Strobl were considered doubtful the day before this game. According to reports, Rose will have Sommer, Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Wendt, Benes, Zakaria, Neuhaus, Embolo, Thuram and Plea in the starting lineup.

Mainz vs Borussia Monchengladbach: Head to head Stats
Just one win for the hosts, two for Gladbach, and two draws, in the last five games between these two in Mainz.
Mainz vs Borussia Monchengladbach: Prediction
Tricky game… The visitors are given a slight advantage to win, but I’m not so sure…
Mainz vs Borussia Monchengladbach: Betting Tips
It’s not often that I suggest “under 2.5 goals” in a Bundesliga game, but I’m making an exception. It pays 1.97, going up to 2.65 if combined with Gladbach’s double chance (not win).
