Malmo vs Genk
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 29 November 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Is it good or bad for Malmo that the season in Sweden is over, and have no game between now and their last one in the Europa League group stage? Only time will tell. The Swedish side are third in the group table, on five points, level with Sarpsborg, but third, not second, because they have scored four goals (4-4), and the Norwegian side have scored six (6-6). The games between them ended 1-1, both, so it’s the overall goal difference in the group that matters now. In two weeks, Malmo will be visiting Besiktas. Just before the international break, they celebrated finishing third in their championship, a position that secured them a spot in next season’s Europa League. On the last day, they beat Elfsborg at home, Hammarby got stuck to a draw at Ostersunds, the two teams finished level on points, but Malmo had the advantage over Hammarby. Last weekend, they won a Sweden Cup game they “owed”, and earned qualification for the competition’s group stage, which will take place next year.
Late July (Europa League qualifiers and first game in Belgium’s championship), perfect. August, almost spotless. September, same thing. October, unexpected defeat at Sarpsborg (3-1), but other than that, “wow”. November? Not that impressive, not impressive at all, actually… Home draw with Club Brugge, home draw with Besiktas, draw at Mouscron, and just last weekend, defeat at home by Cercle Brugge(!), a team sitting 9th in the table in Belgium’s championship. Genk are still leading there, but they are just three points ahead of second-placed Antwerp. They are leading in their EL group as well, two points off Sarpsborg and Malmo, three off Besiktas, meaning that at the end of this day, their position in the table may be very-very different. In two weeks they will be hosting Sarpsborg.

Malmo vs Genk: Head to head Stats
Malmo have never hosted Genk before.
Malmo vs Genk: Prediction
Genk are considered relatively clear favorites to win the game, but I wouldn’t bet on that. Malmo haven’t lost at home since May(!). Someone could claim that the Swedish championship and Cup are not the strongest competitions in Europe, true, but still, not losing at home for more than half a year is… impressive. Plus, several of those games that Malmo played at home since May, have been Europa League matches.
Malmo vs Genk: Betting Tips
Malmo’s double chance is at 1.75. “Over 2.5 goals” pays somewhat better, 1.90, going up to 2.20 if combined with “both teams to score”.
