Malmo vs Sarpsborg
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 8 November 2018
Kick-off: 18:55 CET
Malmo were considered slight favorites to win in Norway two weeks ago, but I backed Sarpsborg to earn at least a draw, and they did. I also suggested “both teams to score”, and both did indeed. Malmo took the lead in the 79th minute, but failed to protect it, as they got equalized in the 87th minute. They are second in the group table, on four points, as many as Sarpsborg, and two behind leaders Genk. They won their last two matches in Sweden’s championship by a total score of 7-0(!). They are fourth there, on 55 points from 29 matches, two points behind Hammarby. Only the second and the third-placed team earn Europa League tickets, so Malmo are desperate to beat Elfsborg the coming weekend, hoping that Östersunds will beat Hammarby at home.
Sarpsborg salvaged a point with that 87th-minute goal two weeks ago, but looking back, they were the ones who tried more, throughout the match, to score, to win. Attempts were 13-4(!), and corners won were 11-1(!). If Sarpsborg had lost, it would have been rather unfair to them. Four points from three matches in the group have them in with a real chance of finishing in the top-2. It’s a tough group, the fact that Besiktas are at the bottom of the table speaks volumes, but everything’s possible. Two weeks before the end of the season in Norway, Sarpsborg are nowhere near earning a Europa League ticket for the 2019-2020 season. They are just 9th in the table there.

Malmo vs Sarpsborg: Head to head Stats
Malmo have never hosted Sarpsborg before.
Malmo vs Sarpsborg: Prediction
Malmo have five wins and a goalless draw at home in their last six matches there. They have scored at least twice in every game, excluding that goalless draw with Sundsvall. On the other hand Sarpsborg’s record on the road is poor. I feel the hosts are closer to winning this one.
Malmo vs Sarpsborg: Betting Tips
A simple Malmo win pays 1.57, not too tempting. “Over 2.5 goals” is at 2.00, and these two combined pay 2.50. Sarpsborg tend to score, even when they lose on the road.
