Malmo vs Zrinjski
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 8 August 2019
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
Malmo played their part in producing two memorable games against Domzale in the second qualifying round. They equalized twice in the first leg, earning a 2-2 draw away from home, found themselves 0-1 down last week in the return leg, went 2-1 up, got equalized, and at the end, what made the difference between the two teams, was Rasmus Bengtsson’s goal in the 83rd minute. Bengtsson is “just” a centre-back, 33, but he scored twice(!) in the return leg against Domzale, and had scored once in the first leg as well, a week earlier. No game last weekend for Uwe Rösler’s team. Three draws in a row in Sweden’s championship have cost them; they are no longer leading, that are now second, one point behind leaders Djurgarden, and level on points with AIK. Three weeks ago, they had both their rivals a good distance behind them.
Zrinjski produced one of the surprises of the second qualifying round, eliminating a team with a much bigger budget, Utrecht. They drew 1-1 in Holland in the first leg, went 0-1 down last week at home, managed to equalize, the tie went to extra-time, and there, Stanisa Mandic scored the golden goal that pushed the Mostar side to the third qualifying round. Football-aside, this Zrinjski side are… exceptional, in the sense that it has players from four former Yugoslav Republics. In their starting lineup last week, you could see players from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, same with their bench, where even their coach is a Croat, Hari Vukas. Their golden scorer, Mandic, is the only guy from Montenegro in the team. It’s “just” football, nothing more, nothing less, but this Zrinjski side make me think how good results people in the western Balkans can produce when working together…

Malmo vs Zrinjski: Prediction
When Zrinjski visited Utrecht in the previous round, my tip was their double chance, paying almost 3.00 (they drew 1-1). I would take the same risk this time, tempted by how well they did against the Dutch, and also by how well their double chance is paying.
