Maribor vs Sevilla
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 6 December 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
You could call Maribor the Slovenian group E version of… Qarabag(!). Atletico Madrid were held to two draws by them, left at a very tough position before the last day of the group stage. Similarly, Maribor have earned only two points so far, and both were against Spartak Moscow, costing the Russian side, most probably, their spot in the last 16 of the competition. Two weeks ago, Maribor earned a 1-1 draw in Moscow(!), definitely one of the biggest surprises of the Champions League season thus far. They will finish last in the group regardless of what happens in this match. Last weekend they beat Gorica 2-1 at home, staying first in the table of Slovenia’s championship, three points ahead of second-placed Olimpija.
What, a, comeback… At halftime, two weeks ago, Sevilla were 3-0 down, at home, against Liverpool, looking doomed. Miraculously, they came back, and Pizarro’s goal in added time salvaged a golden point for them (Liverpool’s double chance and their win in “draw no bet” were my tips back then). If Sevilla win this game, they don’t care about what happens at Anfield, same time. If they draw, they need Liverpool not to lose to Spartak Moscow. If they do, Sevilla and Spartak will finish level on nine points, and the Spanish side does not have the advantage, as they’ve lost 5-1 in Moscow, and only beaten Spartak 2-1 in Spain. A win of theirs in this game, and any other results but a Liverpool win in England, will push them first in the final table. Last weekend they beat Deportivo La Coruna 2-0 at home, reaching Real Madrid on 28 points, eight behind leaders Barcelona. Sevilla are actually visiting Real Madrid the coming weekend.

Maribor vs Sevilla: Head to head Stats
Maribor have hosted Sevilla once before, in 2014. They drew 2-2 (Europa League, round of 32).
Maribor vs Sevilla: Prediction
Sevilla are considered that huge favorites that their win pays a super poor 1.17. I have my doubts, because they may not need-need to win to qualify. As long as Liverpool don’t lose to Spartak Moscow, Sevilla are ok with a draw (or even a defeat). Plus, they are facing Real Madrid in a few games. Not that it’s going to make any difference if, for example, Spartak score first at Anfield, and Sevilla’s players know that they will be obliged to beat Maribor. But, if, just if, Liverpool take a… 2-0 advantage at halftime, and the game in Slovenia is still at 0-0, I don’t see why Sevilla will… die trying to win a game, which they won’t really need to.
Maribor vs Sevilla: Betting Tips
I’m avoiding betting on Sevilla’s win, for reasons already explained. I’m focusing on goals instead, suggesting “under 3.5”, at 1.50, and “under 2.5”, at 2.30 betting odds (depending on how… adventurous you’re feeling).
