Middlesbrough vs West Brom
Competition: Premier League
Date: 31 January 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
Along with Everton, West Brom are one of the more impressive teams boxing above their weight as they sit comfortably in the upper echelons of the table, but if they are to make a bigger push, then they know they will need to start piecing together win streaks, and beat lower opposition even if it is away from home, like their upcoming match with Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough need to be keenly aware that they are not far off the relegation zone, especially seeing that Swansea have escaped it momentarily and are climbing toward them. Sitting in 16th, Middlesbrough are only four points off of Place who now top the bottom three, it is not a good place to be, especially when staring down the barrel of a top 10 competitor who is in good form. Middlesbrough’s own form is not good, speaking if which, they have gone five games with only picking up two points which came from consecutive draws against Leicester and Watford – both 0-0. It speaks of a team that is merely surviving, not doing anything dramatic to break away.
For West Brom, their form is much better as they have won three games in their last five, although there have also been two losses. Those losses, against Arsenal and Tottenham, are probably quite understandable as it put into perspective just where West Brom are this season. They definitely deserve their 8th spot on the log, but they will find it hard to improve on that as they battle to beat some f the team above them. In saying that, they have picked up their points against the likes of Southampton, Sunderland and Hull recently and can do a good job on smaller sides.
Middlesbrough vs West Brom: Head-to-Head Stats
The historical favour is actually in Middlesbrough’s favour, although it is slight as in nine games West Brom have three wins with Boro picking up four. There have also been two draws, of which a 0-0 one was played out when these teams met at the Hawthorns.
Middlesbrough vs West Brom: Prediction
West Brom have been putting away sides that are lower than them on the log, and although they are away from home, they will feel this is another one they can win, and need to win to have a legitimate chance of impressing by staying in the top eight, perhaps even moving higher. Middlesbrough are a frustrating team, so it will be a tight win for the opposition.
Middlesbrough vs West Brom: Tips
Boro have had the joint most draws in the competition along with Manchester United, so they know how to kill off a game regardless if they are pushing for the win or defending for their lives. This case it may be the latter as West Brom push for the win, so expect it to be a tight 1-0 win for the visitors.
