Millonarios vs Independiente
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 18 May 2018
Kick-off: 02:30 CET
There is little that can console you when you get eliminated from a competition, but… truth is, something positive came out for Millonarios after that 1-0 defeat to Santa Fe 10 days ago; they failed to finish in the top 8 of Colombia’s championship, meaning that they haven’t played since then, they had more than enough time to rest, to regroup, and focus on their two remaining Copa Libertadores games. They are at the bottom of the group table, on four points from as many matches, but the way things are in the group, they can still finish even… first. A win over Independiente will make them strong candidates to finish at least third, and play Copa Sudamericana football in the second half of the season. Attacking midfielder David Macalister Silva and center-forward Roberto Ovelar are two players coach Miguel Ángel Ruso cannot count on, for different reasons.
Tuesday had some awful news for Independiente; Leandro Fernández, one of their two top scorers in Argentina’s championship, got seriously injured during practice. Devastating news for the 27-year-old center-forward, bad-bad news for the Avellaneda side. Last weekend, Independiente lost 1-0 at Unión Santa Fe, finishing 6th in their championship. On six points from four matches in their Libertadores group, they are second (level on points with Deportivo Lara, but with a much better goal difference), and not just that, but they have already played twice against the group favorites, Corinthians.

Millonarios vs Independiente: Head to head Stats
Millonarios have hosted Independiente three times in the past. They lost 1-2 in 1968, beat them 1-0 in 1973, and drew 3-3 in 1979. All three were Copa Libertadores group stage matches.
Millonarios vs Independiente: Prediction
Millonarios have had ten days to get ready for this game. Independiente lost one of their best players to injury just last Tuesday. Then again, I keep in mind how fantastic they were at Corinthians, in their last game. All things considered, I’m taking the risk to back Millonarios to win. Independiente have the last game at home, next week, against Deportivo Lara, to fix things up.
Millonarios vs Independiente: Betting Tips
Millonarios’ win pays 2.25. Their double chance at 1.30 is one of those low-odd bets that, to me, look very-very hard to go wrong.
