Nacional Montevideo vs Chapecoense
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 8 February 2018
Kick-off: 00:45 CET
Nacional earned a major victory in Chapeco last week, that 1-0 gives them a big advantage, but somehow it was a few stupid (and that’s the lightest word someone can use to describe them) “fans” who made even bigger headlines. Believe it or not, a few, really few, of the Uruguayans who traveled to Chapeco to support Nacional, dared make fun of Chapecoense’s dead, the ones who died in the plane crash more than a year ago. Photos and videos leave no space for misunderstanding, it is pretty clear what those “fans” were gesturing about. The club apologized, that was the least they could do. Actually, Chapecoense sent a formal request to CONMEBOL to disqualify Nacional from this season’s Copa Libertadores, but such a move would feel rather… extreme, as you can’t hold a whole club responsible for something very few “fans” did. Last weekend, Nacional beat Torque 4-2 in the first match of the new championship campaign in Uruguay. They were 3-0 up by the 26th minute(!).
Chapecoense hosted Nacional last week having three wins and a draw in the Catarinense championship, having kept a clean sheet in all four matches. They lost 1-0 to Nacional, and right after that, they lost 1-0 to Hercílio Luz as well, a week to forget for Chape. As previously mentioned, the club sent a formal request to CONMEBOL, asking to disqualify Nacional for the reason already mentioned. The Confederation made known that their disciplinary committee are looking into TV footage and photos, actually considering Chape’s request. A decision is expected after this return leg, but before the first leg of the third qualifying round. Should be mentioned that last year there were Criciuma “fans” who, in a Catarinense championship match, sang something making fun of Chape’s tragedy. The Brazilian football authorities didn’t really punish the club, who made sure though to identify at least some of those, blocking their access to the stadium in the following games.

Nacional Montevideo vs Chapecoense: Head to head Stats
Nacional have hosted Chape once before, last season, in the Copa Libertadres group stage, a game they won 3-0.
Nacional Montevideo vs Chapecoense: Prediction
There is no doubt Nacional have started the new season fantastically, while Chapecoense just had an awful week. The hosts are considered clear favourites not just to qualify, but to win the game as well. Call me… irrational, but I’m actually backing Chape to earn at least a draw. Not necessarily qualify, but earn a draw, minimum, and give Nacional a real scare, even if they fail to return to Brazil victorious.
Nacional Montevideo vs Chapecoense: Betting Tips
Chapecoense’s double chance pays 2.00, much better than Nacional’s win alone. Their win in “draw no bet” is at 3.30 betting odds.
