Nacional Montevideo vs Estudiantes
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 28 February 2018
Kick-off: 23:15 CET
After their 2-2 draw at Banfield in the first leg, in the Copa Libertadores third qualifying round, I expected Nacional to beat the Argentine side in Montevideo, taking advantage of the risks the visitors were obliged to take, as they needed to win the game in order to qualify. Added time, with the game at 0-0 and Banfield playing with 10 men, Nacional found the opportunity to finish the thing off, scoring a winner (1-0), making their win pay that 2.00 it came at. Last weekend, again at home, versus Cerro, they… strolled to a 4-0 win, playing with an extra man after the 36th minute. By that time, they were already 1-0 up. They made it 2-0 just before half time from the penalty spot, and the game was pretty much over. Nacional are the only team in Uruguay’s Apertura on 12 points from their first four matches.
Estudiantes de La Plata finished third in last season’s championship in Argentina, and that’s how they earned a direct ticket to the Copa Libertadores group stage. In the ongoing championship, they are just 10th, after losing 1-0 at Huracán last weekend. Coach Lucas Bernardi chose to field an alternative lineup, protecting most of his regulars, so as to have them in the best possible condition against Nacional. These last days had some horrible news for Estudiantes, and for Gastón Fernández in particular. The midfielder got seriously injured, needs to undergo surgery, and is expected to stay sidelined for approximately three months, meaning that he will miss the entire Copa Libertadores group stage.

Nacional Montevideo vs Estudiantes: Head to head Stats
What a history between these two… Nacional have hosted Estudiantes three times in the past, two in Copa Libertadores finals, and once in the semifinals. One win for Nacional, two for Estudiantes. The most recent game between these two in Montevideo was in 2009, a Libertadores semifinal which Estudiantes won 2-1.
Nacional Montevideo vs Estudiantes: Prediction
Nacional have already done very-very well against an Argentine team this season, the last two weeks actually, Banfield, but Estudiantes is a very different case. Even so, I agree that they are favourites in this match, and one way or another I expect them to win, most probably by one goal.
Nacional Montevideo vs Estudiantes: Betting Tips
Nacional’s win pays 2.30, which I consider more than good enough to avoid risking further with special bets. I would suggest “under 2.5 goals” as well, but it pays just 1.44.
