Newcastle Falcons vs Northampton Saints
Competition: English Premiership Rugby
Date: 19 February 2017
Kick-off: 16:00 CET
Both of these sides suffered losses they would rather soon forget as the margin in the each game was only two points. Newcastle lost to Sale, a team below them by two, and Northampton came close to beating Bath only for a late penalty.
Northampton have been making a bit of a comeback in the premiership after not the best of starts. They had issues with their captain when he returned from England duty and were losing games that they really shouldn’t have been. However, they have managed to pull themselves together and pushed up the table to end in seventh currently, having been higher before the loss. Northampton may well be suffering from the loss of players to England duty, but really this is a poor excuse as many teams lose players and they should have decent depth. Against Newcastle they will feel they have a better chance than they did against Bath, but again they are away.
Newcastle are also being spoken of as a team that is trying to change their ways and make a go of things, they have been praised for their style of play and positive approach, but it has not really netted them the results they would have liked. Newcastle are in 8th though, and that is just below Saints, and more importantly, it is in striking distance as they are only three points back. Newcastle will want to win this game, because it is at home, and because they will be able to make a big stride ahead of Northampton.
Newcastle Falcons vs Northampton Saints: Head-to-Head Stats
The stats on this fixture do not make good reading for Falcons fans as there have been a full 35 games played and only 12 of those have ended in wins for Newcastle. The other 22 belong to Saints in a dominant display in this game.
Newcastle Falcons vs Northampton Saints: Prediction
Newcastle cannot be counted out at home, and they do need a change in luck to come soon. But Saints should have too much in the tank, especially after a demoralizing loss, to not go and win this one. They may feel the sting of missing players, but they should be getting over the loss soon, and there is no better team than one below you to help get a win.
Newcastle Falcons vs Northampton Saints: Tips
It is not likely to be a high scoring match, so bet on Newcastle coming within a few points of winning again with both teams not clocking up more than 20 points each.
