Newcastle Falcons vs Worcester Warriors
Date: 01 September 2017
Kick off: 19:45 CET
Newcastle have made some massive improvements over the last season, but being a team that was always fighting relegation their big rise has only seen them in the bottom-middle of the table. However, this still represents them a difficult task as they will have to try and get to their best early on and then try and go one above that if they are to show they are no longer a team to be trifled with. They have a good coaching system and game plan in place, and it is starting to pay dividends, but they have also added a great few signings like French International Maxime Mermoz. They will feel they have what it takes at home to beat a Worcester side that is also looking to be better, but the same team battled off relegation.
It has been two seasons in a row where the Warriors have staved off relegation and they deserve praise for that – however. They will be sick and tired of the stresses of the bottom of the log and will rather look to have a better regulation season. They have at their helm a great coach in former Bath man Gary Gold, as well as a defence mastermind that was with Gold at the Sharks in Durban South Africa. Worcester’s recruitment has been under-the-radar, bringing in Ethan Waller as a replacement for Rapava-Ruskin, David Denton for the retiring duo of Paul Dowson and Sam Betty and the venerable Peter Stringer as cover at scrum-half.
Newcastle Falcons vs Worcester Warriors: Head to Head Stats
The Warriors arrive at this fixture with a healthy historic pedigree against the Falcons as they have won six of their last 10 games against them while the Falcons have just three and a draw. The wins have all been really close though for the Warriors – the last four were all wins under eight points, and even a Falcon win in their last match was a 2-pointer.
Newcastle Falcons vs Worcester Warriors: Prediction
The Falcons will be desperate to show they have made the steps up and to prove it they will have to make a statement against a team that should be battling relegation again this season. It is a home game in Newcastle, so they must be aiming for a big and comprehensive win here.
