Nieciecza vs Wisla Plock
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 2 March 2018
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
“Over 2.5 goals” was paying a decent 1.95 last Tuesday, when Nieciecza visited Lechia Gdansk, it was one of my tips, but I got greedy, and since I had little faith in Nieciecza to avoid defeat, I suggested Lechia’s win combined with over 2.5 goals, having a 2-1 hunch. Things looked fantastic in the 57th minute, when Lechia went 2-1 up. Come added time, Joona Toivio (moved to Nieciecza from Molde in January) sent the ball in to earn his team a valuable point, sending my tip to the trashcan… Kudos to Nieciecza, who have picked up four points from their last two matches, stubbornly refusing to fall lower than 14th in the table. As hosts, they have just one defeat in their last seven matches, that 0-3 to Korona Kielce last month.
Wisla Plock had lost at Pogon Szczecin just before hosting Cracovia Krakow midweek, but they hadn’t really played badly in that match. Pogon have been on the rise for weeks now, even before the winter break, so… it kind of made sense. Wisla’s home defeat to Cracovia though, was a disgrace, the way it came, with the football they played. Last time they had looked that bad was in November, when they lost 3-0 at Lechia Gdansk. Wisla looked absolutely horrible, starting from the coach, and going all the way to the… ball-boys. The players looked pathetic, shadows of themselves, but even so, Jerzy Brzęczek didn’t feel the need to make any changes. He sent Nico Varela in only after Cracovia’s goal in the 75th minute, taking Giorgi Merebashvili out, that one guy who could do something in Cracovia’s box, despite being in a poor afternoon himself. Even the ball-boys were… out of tune, taking forever to return the ball in the dying minutes of the match, when Wisla were… supposedly fighting to equalise. Pitiful day for Wisla, really pitiful, a performance worthy of a team not just in the lower half of the table, but close at the bottom of it, no matter if they are currently 8th.
