North Korea vs Qatar
Competition: AFC Asian Cup
Date: 13 January 2019
Kick-off: 12:00 CET
North Korea were nowhere to be seen during the first half of their game against Saudi Arabia the other day. They went to the dressing room losing “only” 2-0, having seen the Saudis lose several other good chances. If that weren’t enough, Han Kwang-Song showed zero football IQ in the 44th minute, committing a ridiculous foul, knowing that he was already on a yellow card. Second yellow, red, end of story. In the second half, North Korea deserved a goal, despite their numerical disadvantage. They were unlucky to find Saudi Arabia’s goalkeeper in a very good day. Loss, 4-0, a result that… puts them in the corner.
I don’t think anyone doubts there was a push in Lebanon’s disallowed goal against Qatar the other day, but I was left with the impression that it was the kind of push that referees, nine out of 10 times, let go unpunished, especially in corner kicks, when practically all players push each other. In that sense, I think Qatar were very lucky to see the referee annul Lebanon’s goal. Qatar looked very poor offensively in the first half, but they improved in the second one, took courage from the fact that Lebanon didn’t really threaten offensively, opened the scoring in the 65th minute, and put the game to bed in the 79th, with their second goal. A deserved 2-0 victory? Depends on your point of view, regarding Lebanon’s annulled goal…
