OFI Crete vs Atromitos
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 31 January 2019
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
OFI Crete lost 4-0 at PAOK last weekend, no surprise, and truth is, the score could have been bigger. They were visiting the Super League leaders, who are playing probably their best football of the season these days, so… it’s hard to blame OFI’s players for what happened last weekend in Thessaloniki. As mentioned here a few days ago, they have a new coach, Jaime Vera, a Chilean who played for OFI more than 20 years ago, when the Crete side were a regular in Greece’s top division. A problem with his passport didn’t allow him to travel to Greece on Monday, and he’s expected to be in Crete on Friday. Interim coach Nikos Karabetakis will be in charge in this match. On another note, winger Vasilis Koutsianikoulis was given a four-match ban, for using an unacceptable word aimed at the referee of a recent OFI game. It’s not the first time in his career his… mouth gets him in trouble. OFI are 14th in the table, on 15 points.
Atromitos paid for two serious refereeing mistakes last weekend, losing 2-1 at Lamia. An offside not given (in Lamia’s first goal), and a wrong penalty decision, obliged Atromitos to that defeat. On the other hand, should be mentioned that the Peristeri side were rather poor. Giorgos Spanos, the club president, made sure to express his… feelings about the referee after the final whistle, but soon after that, he talked to his players, and his message, more or less, was “get serious”. Atromitos have now lost back-to-back games in the Super League, but they remain fourth in the table, on 29 points. Centre-forward Armin Mujakic got injured in the game versus Lamia, had to undergo surgery, and is expected to be back in a month.

OFI Crete vs Atromitos: Prediction
Truth is, Atromitos didn’t play well in their last two away matches, both of which they lost, but it shouldn’t go unnoticed than in both, they were the victims of very bad refereeing decisions. I’m tipping them to leave Crete with at least one point.
