Olimpia Asuncion vs Independiente CG
Competition: Paraguay Apertura
Date: 15 April 2018
Kick-off: 23:45 CET
If you’re following the Apertura in Paraguay you knew Olimpia are the best team this season even before their victory over Libertad midweek. The fact that they left one of their main rivals nine points behind them though, was yet another clear “message” to everyone that this is Olimpia’s tournament. They do have the best-performing team at the moment, and, very important, they don’t have Copa Libertadores matches “distracting” them, unlike Libertad. Not that the title is already won by them. They are four points ahead of second-placed Nacional, who seem to be the only ones who can challenge Olimpia in this first half of the season. Defensive midfielder Rodrigo Burgos has been training properly for days now (after spending more than three weeks in jail – a domestic violence case), and could return to action against Independiente de Campo Grande.
Looking at the table you see Inde sitting 5th, nine points behind leaders Olimpia, but do keep in mind that on the pitch, ON the pitch, they have been the second best team in the Apertura thus far, at least based on results. I repeat, ON the pitch, they have earned 20 points, not 17, and second-placed Nacional have earned 20, not 23. Nacional got humiliated at Inde in the second game of the season, but the football authorities in Paraguay decided that Inde had fielded an ineligible youngster (U19), and Nacional won the game in a court room. All that aside, Inde acted like amateurs last weekend, losing 2-1 at Deportivo Capiatá. It’s been a week now, and I still can’t believe they lost, especially they way they lost, GIFTING Capiatá a goal in the first minute, and then another one just before the end. Inde lost 2-1 to a poor team that were playing with 10 men since the 61st minute. In general, they have been very good this season, but they have also had a couple of… “black holes”, with that defeat at Capiatá last weekend the most disappointing result of the season thus far for them, along with a “silly” home draw to 3 de Febrero.

Olimpia Asuncion vs Independiente CG: Head to head Stats
Both games last season between these two with Olimpia as hosts ended in a draw, 2-2 and 1-1. Before that, Olimpia hadn’t hosted Inde since 2012.
Olimpia Asuncion vs Independiente CG: Prediction
Olimpia have struggled offensively in their last three games, scoring just twice, looking… “blocked”, but they did keep a clean sheet in all three matches. They played midweek, keep that in mind. All things considered, I’m taking a major risk backing Independiente to earn at least a draw, expecting them to look more “fresh” than Olimpia, and more motivated. Plus, Inde usually perform better when they don’t have ball possession, when they find spaces to counterattack, and that should be the case at “Para Uno”, Olimpia’s home.
Olimpia Asuncion vs Independiente CG: Betting Tips
Inde’s double chance pays an awesome 2.90(!). Way more than good enough to avoid risking with anything else.
