Osijek vs CSKA Sofia
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 1 August 2019
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
As predicted here, Osijek lost in Sofia last week, partly paying the price for facing CSKA right after the arrival of a new coach, something that, as it turned out, gave the Bulgarian side that extra motive they apparently needed. What’s ironic is that Osijek finished the game on 11 attempts, while winners CSKA had just five. The on target ones were 2-1 for Osijek, meaning that CSKA scored with their only on target attempt in the whole game. Details like these made Dino Skender, Osijek’s coach, say that the final 1-0 in Sofia was some sort of… accident, and that the result does not reflect how the game really went. Last weekend, Osijek lost again, 3-1, at Gorica. On another note, right-back Alen Grgic had to undergo surgery. He got injured in pre-season, they avoided deciding on a surgery right away, but as time passed, the decision was made to go for an operation, to help the player leave the problem behind him for good.
Ljupko Petrovic is no magician, CSKA Sofia didn’t play… dazzling football last week on his debut, but they were effective, they beat Osijek 1-0, and over the weekend they won again, a 2-1 over city rivals Slavia. Brazilian Evandro looks hot, scoring all three goals in CSKA’s last two matches. Petrovic told reporters that the… easiest way to lose the game and get eliminated is to sit back and just try kill time. He said CSKA have the players to try score at least once in Croatia. If they succeed, Osijek will need a minimum of three goals to qualify.

Last week’s game was the first ever between these two.
Osijek vs CSKA Sofia: Prediction
The hosts are considered favorites to win the game. I wouldn’t bet on that, even though CSKA would be… perfectly fine with losing 2-1, for example.
Osijek vs CSKA Sofia: Betting Tips
“Under 1.5” is at 2.75, suiting my hunch that the game will be a super tight one, with countless fouls (the match in Sofia last week had 39!), and little time spent playing real football. “Under 2.5 goals” does not pay more than 1.60, but goes up to 1.97 if combined with Osijek’s double chance.
