Palestine vs Australia
Competition: AFC Asian Cup
Date: 11 January 2019
Kick-off: 12:00 CET
Palestine defended, defended, and defended the other day on their Asian Cup debut against Syria, didn’t create a single real chance to score, and got… rewarded, earning a precious point. Can the same tactics work in a second game in a row? Time will tell. Against Syria, we didn’t see them trailing in the score, we only saw them defending their goal, perfectly fine with earning one point. If they concede in this game, and do so first, they’ll have no choice but to leave their… comfort zone. In their last four matches, the one versus Syria and three friendly ones in December, they scored two goals, one past Iran, and one against Kyrgyzstan. As for that clean sheet they kept the other day, it was their first in six matches.
Australia sort of… wasted the whole first half the other day, facing Jordan. They went 0-1 down in the 26th minute, got saved by Matt Ryan later on, when he touched the ball just enough to push it towards the horizontal post and then out of his box, and generally looked… out of pace in the first 45 minutes. A totally different Australia showed up in the second half; they dominated, created chances, scored but saw the goal get annulled for offside, they even missed a great chance in the last second of the match, with the clock showing 95:00 (fifth minute of added time). Still, they lost, and here they are now, the reigning Asian Cup titleholders, desperate to get something out of this match. With the four best third-placed teams qualifying for the last 16, a draw won’t be the end of the world for Australia, but… really, it would be ridiculous if they failed in a second game in a row, against a side that is nowhere near them, quality-wise.

Palestine vs Australia: Prediction
Australia have already fallen victims to a major surprise. What happens once, can easily happen twice, but in this case, I’m backing them to do the… absolute minimum, beat Palestine even by just… half a goal.
Palestine vs Australia: Betting Tips
A simple Australia win pays less than 1.30, but combined with a clean sheet, that goes up to 1.80, my main tip. “Australia and under 3.5 goals” is at 1.83.
