Palmeiras vs Bahia
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 11 August 2019
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
This feels… weird, but it’s true; Palmeiras have not won any of their last four Serie A matches(!). Last weekend they drew 1-1 at Corinthians, being second best on the pitch during the first half, looking much better in the second one, and earning what they deserved, a point. They are second in the table, four points behind leaders Santos (unless Santos earned more points on Saturday, against Sao Paulo). Luiz Felipe Scolari is expected to have Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Luan, Edu Dracena (or Vitor Hugo), Diogo Barbosa, Felipe Melo, Bruno Henrique, Gustavo Scarpa, Dudu, Willian and Borja in the starting lineup. The only “regular” missing is centre-back Gustavo Gómez (suspended). Former Brazil international Ramires is back to training after recovering from a minor injury, but his chances of playing are few.
Palmeiras have the best defensive record in the league, they have conceded just seven goals in 13 matches thus far, but Bahia have looked awesome themselves these last weeks. They have kept three clean sheets in a row, including the one in last weekend’s 3-0 triumph over Flamengo at home. Roger Machado would prefer having less problems heading into this game, but he has to deal with several players missing; striker Fernandão is suspended, and Giovanni, Elton, Guerra, Ernando, Rogério, Artur and Juninho are also out for various reasons. Bahia are expected to start with Douglas, Nino Paraíba, Lucas Fonseca, Marllon (or Wanderson), Moisés, Gregore, Flávio, Ramires, Lucca, Elber (or Arthur Caíke) and Gilberto. Caíke got absolved by the disciplinary committee of STJD for his red card in the game against Cruzeiro, so he is available. Bahia were 10th in the table before Saturday’s matches.

Palmeiras vs Bahia: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Palmeiras, one for Bahia, and two draws, in the last five games between these two in Sao Paulo.
Palmeiras vs Bahia: Prediction
Palmeiras are considered huge favorites to win the game. I agree, despite the fact that they haven’t won any of their last four in the championship.
Palmeiras vs Bahia: Betting Tips
Given that a simple Palmeiras win pays just 1.36, I would risk combining it with “under 3.5 goals”, at 1.75. “Palmeiras and under 2.5” pays 2.63.
