Palmeiras vs Cruzeiro
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 30 October 2017
Kick-off: 23:00 CET
Now what? The day Cuca and Palmeiras announced that they had reached a mutual agreement to terminate their contract (three weeks ago), Mano Menezes was the name that was put forward to succeed Cuca at Palmeiras, not immediately, but after the end of the season. Alberto Valentim took charge as interim coach, only… they won 3-1 at Atletico Goianiense, they beat Ponte Preta as well, 2-0 at home, and last weekend they threw a party in the second half against Gremio in Porto Alegre, beating them too, 3-1. Three games under Valentim, three wins, and in the meantime, Cruzeiro announced (less than a week ago) that Menezes signed a new contract that runs until December 2019. It looks good for Valentim, but according to reports, this game against Menezes’ Cruzeiro is seen as a major test for him by the Palmeiras board of directors. They are still planning on signing a “well-known” coach, a very experienced coach, but if Valentim’s Palmeiras keep doing well, the board of directors will be practically obliged to… promote him from “interim” coach to “long-term” coach. Palmeiras are the only Serie A team to have won their last three games, and for the first time in months they are “just” six points behind leaders Corinthians.
Shocking… To be winning 1-0 until the 60th minute, having missed more than half a dozen chances to extend your lead, having two shots on the post, and having your goalkeeper a simple spectator due to the opponents’ inability to pose any danger, to go from THAT, at home, against your biggest city rival, to losing 3-1(!!!), is definitely shocking… I don’t know if I should feel bad for Cruzeiro or laugh at them. For 60 minutes last weekend, when they hosted Atletico Mineiro, they were absolutely spectacular, a true joy to watch, treating the game as a… party, a chance to show their city rivals who throws the best ones in town. Then, in the last 30 minutes, after an “out of nowhere” Atletico equalizer, the game turned upside down. Cruzeiro, the team that missed… 7-8 big chances to score more than once, lost 3-1 to a team that took perfect advantage of ALL three chances they created. Inconceivable…

Palmeiras vs Cruzeiro: Head to head Stats
The last three games between these two in Sao Paulo have ended in a draw. Before that, Palmeiras and Cruzeiro had won a game each. Three of those five matches went over 2.5 goals.
Palmeiras vs Cruzeiro: Prediction
First things first, I will be very-very surprised if Palmeiras lose this game. Other than that, I feel draw is the most probable result. I feel betting on a Palmeiras win alone, despite their excellent form, is very risky.
Palmeiras vs Cruzeiro: Betting Tips
Palmeiras’ double chance pays a low 1.20, while their win in “draw no bet” is no higher than 1.33 betting odds. I’m taking the risk to suggest a draw, at 3.30.
