Palmeiras vs Junior
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 17 May 2018
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
So what if Palmeiras have already qualified for the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores having 13 points from five matches? So what if they had three wins in a row (all away from home) before visiting Corinthians last weekend? Everything they’ve managed ever since that painful loss in the final of the Paulista championship, seems to have been… erased in the mind of some of their fans (to be more specific, their biggest fan club, the most vocal, and the most famous for creating trouble), who, after their loss to Corinthians on Saturday, went that far as to demand Roger Machado’s… head on a plate. For the time being, the board of directors are backing their coach, hoping that tension will ease these next days. According to reports, Palmeiras will host Junior with an alternative lineup, having several regulars out, resting.
Junior enter this game having the… luxury of depending on themselves. If they beat Palmeiras, they simply don’t care about what happens in Buenos Aires between Boca Juniors and Alianza Lima. If they draw and Boca win, they are out. If they lose, they need Alianza Lima to… perform a football miracle, and beat Boca at La Bombonera. Coach Julio Comesaña saw his team lose 1-0 at home last weekend, to Independiente Medellín, in the first leg of the quarterfinals in Colombia’s championship. The coming weekend, Junior need to overturn that result in Medellín, but that “final” has to wait. The news that Palmeiras will, most probably, play with several reserves, was treated with… caution at Junior, first because they don’t know how extensive Palmeiras’ rotation will be, and second because they will face a Palmeiras side with players, reserves, who will see this game as a chance to… show things.

Palmeiras vs Junior: Head to head Stats
That 0-3 earlier this year in Barranquilla, was the first game ever between these two.
Palmeiras vs Junior: Prediction
Palmeiras are considered clear favorites to win, but playing with several reserves, against a super motivated team, I don’t expect them to beat Junior.
Palmeiras vs Junior: Betting Tips
The visitors’ double chance is at 1.80, and that’s my main tip. “Under 2.5 goals” pays 1.75, and suits my 0-0 or 0-1 hunch.
