Palmeiras vs Melgar
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 12 March 2019
Kick-off: 23:15 CET
Palmeiras’ win in “draw no bet” (1.85), and their double chance combined with “under 2.5 goals” (2.00) were the two tips here last week, when the Sao Paulo side visited Junior, in Barranquilla. Dudu and Gustavo Scarpa combined beautifully to produce the first goal of the match in the 11th minute, which gave Palmeiras the lead, and also boosted their belief that they could leave Colombia with all three points. Junior did have their chances, but all in all, Palmeiras did an awesome job defensively, and in the 90th minute they finished the game off, with Miguel Borja giving Marcos Rocha a “take it and put it in” pass. Palmeiras showed the same “know-how” they demonstrated last season in Brazil’s championship after Luiz Felipe Scolari took over, which is what led them to the title. Interestingly, on Saturday they dropped the ball, drawing with Mirassol, 1-1, despite the fact that they took the lead, Mirassol had a player sent-off right after that, but still went on to equalize within a matter of a minute or two. Palmeiras’ players were in disbelief after the final whistle.
Melgar’s double chance combined with “under 2.5 goals” was one of the two tips here last week (2.22), it came good, but deep down I expected them to score one goal and win the game, taking advantage of their home and San Lorenzo’s poor phase. The Peruvian side were much better in the first half, when they missed their best chances to score. Truth is though, they almost… disappeared from San Lorenzo’s box in the second half, generally the game had very few real chances, and that 0-0 felt rather fair for both, despite, I repeat, the fact that Melgar were better in the first half, spending most of it in San Lorenzo’s half of the pitch. On Saturday they lost 1-0 at Real Garcilaso, and are now on just one point from three matches in Peru’s championship.

Any other result but a Palmeiras win would be a big-big surprise.
Palmeiras vs Melgar: Betting Tips
Given that the hosts’ victory pays less than 1.20, I would combined it with “under 3.5 goals” (1.85), and even “under 2.5 goals” (3.05).
