Palmeiras vs Vitoria
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 2 December 2018
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
Party time at Palmeiras… Their 0-1 win at Vasco da Gama last weekend pushed them to 77 points, five more than second-placed Flamengo. They celebrated with their fans at Sao Januário, but this party will be much-much bigger, at home, full house, no surprise. Palmeiras’ directors have already turned their attention to next season. These last days, they renewed the contracts of three players, Fernando Prass, Jailson, and Edu Dracena. Ceará’s striker, Arthur Cabral, signed weeks ago, for five years. It feels like Palmeiras will have just a few changes when they gather up in January for next season, but in order to meet their biggest target in 2019, win the Copa Libertadores, most probably they’ll need a couple of quality additions to their roster, especially because they are not sure all top players, namely Dudu, will stay.
These last days have been… sad and at the same time awkward at Vitória. Their 0-0 draw at home last weekend with Gremio, means they are already relegated, mathematically. João Burse, the U23 coach that was trusted with the job these last weeks after Paulo César Carpegiani’s departure, is going back to his previous job, coaching Vitória’s U23 team, and in his last Press conference he expressed his hope that at some point in the future he will be given again the chance to coach the first team. Ricardo David, Vitória’s president, said he won’t be resigning, as he feels he is the right man to put the club on the right track again. As for the players, a couple of them renewed their contact this past week, but most of them are waiting to see what will happen, if the club have the intention to keep them, and go on paying them the same they earned in 2018 (which feels highly improbable).

Palmeiras vs Vitoria: Prediction
It’s hard to imagine Palmeiras not winning this game, but their victory pays less than 1.20.
Palmeiras vs Vitoria: Betting Tips
It’s Palmeiras’ chance to celebrate with their fans, at home, without any pressure, against a team that is also under zero pressure, so… I can easily see the game go “over 2.5 goals” (1.65), obviously with Palmeiras winning it (1.72, the combination of the two). For more than that, I would bet on Palmeiras’ “over 2.5 goals”, paying 2.00.
