Panathinaikos vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
Competition: Turkish Airlines Euroleague
Date: 11 October 2018
Time: 19:00 CET
Greek side Panathinaikos did a pretty solid job in the regular season of the Euroleague, as they finished at the 4th spot (W19 L11). They were matched against Real Madrid in the playoffs and actually made a dominant start in Game 1 when they dropped 30 points on them. But they went on to lose each of the next three matches and suffered a tough elimination. The Greeks did quite a few changes in their roster, with Gabriel, Singleton, James, Auguste, Denmon, Payne and Rivers departing for other endeavors. But Panathinaikos did a great selection for the replacements, bringing in players with tons of experience in the competition. Stephane Lasme returned to the team, along with Georgios Papagiannis who played some matches in the NBA last season. Moreover, they added a couple of lethal scorers like Keith Langford and DeShaun Thomas, along with Ioannis Papapetrou and Vangelis Sakellariou.
On the other hand, Maccabi Tel Aviv had a mediocre season overall, but really fell apart in their last five matches. They lost all five and eventually settled at the 10th spot of the Euroleague with a W13 L17 record. They are traditionally strong at home, but last season they won just nine of their 15 matches there. They let go of Segev, Jackson, Cole, Bolden, Thomas, Mashour and Parakhouski, who all had decent experience in the competition. They brought in Scottie Wilbekin to cover the starting PG spot, and youngster Nimrod Levi. Moreover, they added four players with no Euroleague experience (Kendrick Ray, Angelo Caloiaro, Johnny O’Bryant and Tarik Black). Johnny O’Bryant and Tarik Black came from the NBA to give some much-needed muscle at the big men positions.

Panathinaikos vs Maccabi Tel Aviv: Prediction
Panathinaikos rarely destroy Maccabi Tel Aviv in their home matches, and the +7.5 handicap for the visitors looks like a good deal here. Both teams have only played a couple of competitive matches so far in the season, so there is still some synergy to be created among both camps.
Panathinaikos vs Maccabi Tel Aviv: Betting Tips
The Over/Under line is set at 156.5 points, a line that has been crossed in eight of the last 13 competitive matches in this venue. It looks like a good deal here, but I will take the +7.5 for Maccabi Tel Aviv. Panathinaikos have the better chances to win this one, but it will not be easy.
