Panathinaikos vs Panionios
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 6 April 2017
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
For Panathinaikos, prestige-wise, it doesn’t get much better than having beaten Olympiakos and AEK in back-to-back game weeks. After their spectacular 2-3 win at AEK last weekend, they may remain fourth in the table, but A) they put AEK in a very tough position, and B) they boosted their chances to finish second in the regular season, which would give them even a small advantage once the play-offs start. Coach Ouzounidis has practically all his players at his disposal, and, most of all, he has them with their morale high up, after the incredible way they beat AEK. They were 0-2 up at half-time, and despite getting equalized in the 77th minute, they went on to win the game with a last-minute Berg goal, his second in the game.
As they’ve done again and again this season, Panionios proved once more this last weekend that they are a serious team, and that they are not second in the table by accident. They beat Atromitos 2-1 in a game that could have gone the other way if they hadn’t stayed totally focused, and against Panathinaikos they are playing 90% of reaching their goal which is to finish second, and enter the play-offs with a small advantage over the other three participants. Panionios are hosting Platanias next, and they finish the regular season with games against indifferent Kerkyra and lowly Levadiakos, so if they manage to get a draw at Panathinaikos, they will have huge chances to finish second.
Panathinaikos vs Panionios: Head-to-head Stats
Panathinaikos have beaten Panionios two of the last three times they hosted them, with one game ending in a goalless draw.
Panathinaikos vs Panionios: Prediction
I totally respect what Panionios have done this season, despite having a budget way lower than that of Panathinaikos, PAOK, or AEK, they have managed to be sitting second in the table just four games before the end of the regular season, but in this particular game I expect them to lose, only because Panathinaikos have been superb for weeks and weeks now, and especially at home they seem almost impossible to fight against.
Panathinaikos vs Panionios: Tips
Despite trusting Panathinaikos to win this game, I feel that 1.53 is ridiculously low, given how good Panionios are. Instead, I’m going for goals. Over 2.5 pays 2.35, and both teams to score is at pretty much the same. Last, but most definitely not least, given how H O T Berg has been for… longer than what I can remember, 2.20 on him to score anytime looks very-very good.
