Panetolikos vs Panathinaikos
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 30 January 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Panetolikos lacked “clear mind”, that’s what their coach, Traianos Dellas, told reporters, after the final whistle last weekend. The Agrinio side drew 0-0 with Xanthi at home, in a game that had the two goalkeepers as the best players on the pitch. It was Panetolikos’ second draw in three Super League matches in 2019. In their first home match this year, they wanted more, a goal, a win, to leapfrog Xanthi in the table, but they lacked that… extra something you need to win a super tight match. They remained 7th in the table, one point behind Panathinaikos and Xanthi. As hosts, they lost on their debut, back in August, but ever since then, they’ve won four and drawn in three matches.
“Panathinaikos’ self-confidence is… shattered”, I wrote last weekend, suggesting Larissa’s double chance (2.65!) in Athens, against the Greens. Giorgos Donis’ men took the lead just three minutes into the match from the penalty spot, and not just that, but AEL were reduced to 10 men. Despite playing with an extra guy for practically the entire game, incredibly, Panathinaikos “managed” to earn only one point. They got equalized in the 54th minute, and failed to take the lead again. Did they deserve to? In the 87th minute there was a penalty for them, which the referee didn’t give. If the ref had seen that correctly, most probably, Panathinaikos would have won. Even their own people though, coach and players, admitted after the match that the team played very badly, and refereeing mistake-aside, they should have done so-so much better, especially playing with an extra man. Panathinaikos remained 5th, as there was no winner in the game between Panetolikos and Xanthi, and also, Aris lost.

Panetolikos are hosting a very vulnerable, mentally, team. I’m tipping the hosts to win.
