Panionios vs AEK Athens
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 26 January 2019
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Panionios beat PAS Giannina 2-0 at home midweek, and qualified for the Cup quarterfinals. It felt like they didn’t exactly… struggle, it looked rather easy. They had drawn 1-1 in Giannina in the first leg, a simple goalless draw would have been enough for them, but having opposite them a rather disheartened team (PAS), they still scored twice and won the game. Panionios are serious about doing well in the Cup, but at the same time they need to improve a lot in the Super League. Bad thing is, they are just 10th, on 19 points from 16 matches. Good thing is, the teams fighting for the fifth spot, which should give a Europa League ticket, are not that far, just three and four points ahead of them. Coach Akis Mantzios told reporters after midweek’s 2-0 over PAS that “whoever proves he really wants to be part of Panionios, will be given chances to play”, implying something that there are guys who would love to leave the club as soon as possible.
Hot, AEK Athens are hot, looked so once again midweek, when they destroyed Football League side Kissamikos 5-0 in the Cup. You could say they were playing against a team from a lower division, true, but it’s in “easy” games like that when players of big teams tend to… get complacent. AEK’s, didn’t. Last weekend they beat Asteras Tripolis 3-0 scoring all goals in the first half, and just before that they had thrown a party in Giannina beating PAS 0-4, scoring, again, all their goals in the first half. They are third in the Super League table, on 30 points, 14 behind leaders PAOK, and six behind second-placed Olympiakos. They had three points deducted months ago, they still hope to get them back, but in the meantime, coach Marinos Ouzounidis seems to have finally found a formula that works for them.

Panionios vs AEK Athens: Head to head Stats
One win for Panionios, two for AEK, and two draws, in the last five games between these two in Nea Smirni.
Panionios vs AEK Athens: Prediction
I expect AEK to win the game, and the match to have more than one goal.
Panionios vs AEK Athens: Betting Tips
A simple AEK win pays 1.70. Combined with “over 2.5 goals”, that goes up to 3.25. If you find this, “AEK and over 1.5” is at 2.30, less risky, and still paying well.
