Panionios vs PAS Giannina
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 21 April 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
It feels like Panionios left the best for last… Four game weeks ago, after their 5-0 humiliation at Panetolikos, they were flirting with relegation. Fast forward to today, you look back at what they have done in their last four matches, and you see three wins, all three against teams fighting to avoid relegation. Last weekend they beat Levadiakos 1-2 on the road, coming from behind, their first away win (in the Super League) since November(!). On 35 points, not only they are safe, but they are sitting 7th in the table, and could finish as high as 6th. Not as good as in previous years, when they earned Europa League tickets, but given how most of their season has been, finishing in the upper half of the table is something. Centre-back Yaya Banana is out, suspended.
If you ask PAS Giannina’s president, they have lost eight matches this season because of refereeing mistakes. He may be exaggerating a bit, but at least last weekend, no, they didn’t lose due to a refereeing mistake, but they did drop two points, which felt like a defeat. Two minutes into the second half, hosting Asteras Tripolis in a big-BIG game in the fight they are giving to avoid relegation, they had a perfectly good goal disallowed. The game ended in a goalless draw, a very bad result for Giannina, who dropped below the relegation line, one point behind 13th-placed OFI. Their president contacted UEFA during the week, drawing their attention to OFI’s win at Panathinaikos, which, according to PAS, was a “weird” result, that should be looked into by UEFA’s anti-match-fixing authorities. PAS are with their back against the wall; already below the relegation line, they are visiting an in-form team, and in two weeks, on the last day of the season, they will be hosting champions PAOK, who will want to finish the Super League season undefeated, adding to their glory.

Panionios vs PAS Giannina: Prediction
Throughout this past week, Panionios’ people have been quoted over and over again saying that they will play against PAS to win, and to win only. Even so, betting companies pay a mere 1.55 on Giannina’s victory, which we all know what it means(…). Personally, I would leave winners and losers aside, and bet on goals instead.
Panionios vs PAS Giannina: Betting Tips
“Under 1.5” is at 2.65. It is much riskier than “under 2.5 goals”, but the latter pays only 1.55. That 2.65 makes the risk worth it, I reckon.
